Bloodwork
Functional Blood Chemistry {aka Nutritional Blood Chemistry} is a way of looking at nutritional information contained in blood tests. It is a way of using biochemistry to find the root cause of nutritional imbalance. It gives a biochemical picture of what is going on inside your body.
It is specific to each individual, evidence-based, science-guided and medically referenced.
Blood Chemistry can be used to reveal nutritional imbalances, reveal symptom suppression, evaluate the depth of the therapeutic effect of your protocol and monitor the effectiveness of your nutritional approach ~ because blood chemistry changes faster than your symptoms.
A comprehensive blood chemistry panel {Chem-24, CBC with differentials, Thyroid panel and Lipid panel} can reveal nutritional imbalance/dysregulation in: GI system, immune system, liver/biliary effectiveness, blood sugar balance, thyroid function, adrenal function, various types of anemia, and much, much more.
Functional Blood Chemistry focuses on pattern-based analysis that allows us to see multiple angles in your physiology. For instance … if your blood work suggests anemia, we can look at the patterns to detect whether the anemia is due to: B12/folate/B6/ iron deficiencies, copper, autoimmune disorder or genetics. We can get a clear picture of whether the anemia begins with: low hydrochloric acid levels, enzyme deficiencies, competitive parasites, a heavy metal burden or if it is hereditary.
I’ll give you a "for instance”:
Many years ago, my husband had been complaining about increased fatigue. He chocked it up to “just getting old.” Any of you who know John, know that he is not “old” in body or mind, so this was a worrisome development that continued to get worse for quite some time. One day he came home with the blood chemistry panel from his work related annual physical. I looked over it and saw that, even though his physician had passed him with flying colors, he had an alarmingly low white blood cell count. Ah-ha! I looked it over, compared the neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils and basophils and the pattern suggested a chronic viral infection. I immediately put him on a nutritional regimen for modulating viruses in the body and he was feeling much better within a matter of days. The run down feeling was gone!
John’s was a pretty typical case of fatigue. There can be so many nutritional imbalances that cause fatigue … from viral/bacterial/fungal/parasitic infections, to anemia, blood sugar imbalances causing disruption in the making of ATP, adrenal function, thyroid health and many others. Functional Blood Chemistry analysis can reveal the culprit elegantly and precisely.
Now, why didn't your doc pick up on these patterns? Because your physician's job is to focus on acute medical care ... they are looking for indicators of disease. They are looking at the blood chemistry in order to tell you that you do or do not have “it” {whatever disease that might be}.
Now, you may not have “it” but you may still have symptoms that make you feel lousy. That’s where nutritional counselors like myself come into the picture. We can use Functional Nutritional Blood Chemistry to figure out what exactly is causing your lousy symptoms … and then walk you in the opposite direction so you steadily march toward health and away from potentially developing a disease.
I do not diagnose disease and I do not work to treat disease processes. When a client has disease markers show up in a blood panel I refer them to their allopathic physician who is trained in treating disease. The functional blood chemistry range has a much smaller 'window of health' so if a disease process is beginning to occur, then I can recommend the patient to a physician at an earlier stage and the patient has a greater chance of attaining complete wellness. I do have many clients with disease process underway that are being managed by allopathic physicians and are working concurrently with me to enhance the healing processes.
The majority of my patients have suffered from chronic discomfort and disease. Most are dealing with autoimmune disorders, Hashimoto's, Grave's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, celiac disease, and Crohn's … many others are dealing with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, chronic viral hepatitis, gallbladder disease, autism, anorexia-bulimia, mood disorders with neurotransmitter imbalances, infertility, menopause and andropause. Nutritional Coaching has become an integral way for them to manage their symptoms and live pain free. I do have a smaller percentage of clients that are in good health, and want to enhance their well-being by instituting an anti-aging regimen.
